Photodynamic Therapy (PDT)
Photodynamic therapy is an ablative method for eradicating superficial lesions. It involves the application of a photosensitizing medication, either topically or systemically (typically a derivative of hematoporphyrins or dyes), which is activated by the application of irradiation with the appropriate wavelength. This process destroys damaged cells, tumors, germs, fungi, and viruses. It can eliminate premalignant skin lesions, some early-stage cancers, cutaneous and mucosal papillomas, infections such as acne, mycosis, molluscum contagiosum, warts, and also promote collagen regeneration in photo-damaged skin, reducing expression lines.
